Sophie Cox is a multi-talented athlete; she even got into the Guinness Book of World Records for being the first ever female rugby league player at Wembley in 1993.
She went on to develop a passion for Judo, and trained under coach Brian Moore at Bacup judo club. At age eight she was already competing in judo tournaments, and at age fifteen she earned her black belt. She then went on to win 4 European medals and was a member of Team GB in the 2004 Olympic Games.
Following the Games, she retired from judo and went abroad to teach. Several years later, she returned to the sport, and decided to compete in a lower weight category (-52 kg). She trained at the British judo training centre in Dartford prior to the Olympic Games in London. She fought for Team GB and only lost to the eventual gold medallist on a small score. She currently trains at Kendal Judo Club, centre of excellence and multi-sport facility in the heart of Cumbria. Sophie coaches and leads sessions at both Kendal and Bacup judo club and is seen as a very influential asset.
She currently does work as an athlete mentor for a number of prestigious organisations including The Dame Kelly Holmes Legacy Trust, the Youth Sports Trust and The Street Games initiative. She has a keen interest in helping people of whatever age achieve their potential, either in sport or in any other area of their life. Having taught at every level and having travelled extensively throughout her career, she is uniquely positioned to be able to deliver comprehensive advice in fitness and well-being as well as judo specific training.
